The European Roma Rights Center (ERRC) in Budapest is currently accepting applications for two positions in its legal department.

 
1. Lawyer – Extended Application Deadline: August 30, 2010
 
Based in Budapest, the lawyers will work with the legal team to develop and implement legal strategy, handle selected cases, draft amicus curiae briefs and legal submissions to domestic and international dispute resolution fora, and will work with lawyers, judges, human rights organisations and other relevant institutions. The staff lawyers may also participate in or coordinate legislative and policy review and drafting, advocacy and lobbying, as well as training and public education on legal issues. Staff lawyers will also provide appropriate substantive input into research reports, donor reports and funding proposals.

2. Legal Trainee – Application Deadline: September 15, 2010
 
The legal trainee programme is designed to provide young lawyers with the training and skills needed to launch a career in litigation and related legal advocacy on rights issues affecting Romani communities. Based in Budapest, the trainee:

  • will work with the legal team under supervision of one or more of its lawyers to assist in developing and implementing legal strategy, handling selected cases, drafting amicus curiae briefs and legal submissions to domestic and international tribunals, working with lawyers, judges, human rights organisations and other relevant institutions; 
  • may also be involved in legislative and policy review and drafting, advocacy and lobbying; and
  • will also provide appropriate substantive input into research reports, donor reports and funding proposals.
