Contact Point for Roma and Sinti Issues - OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights

 

The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is active throughout the OSCE area in the fields of election observation, democratic development, human rights, tolerance and non-discrimination, and rule of law. The ODIHR Contact Point addresses Roma and Sinti issues either directly through its programs or by promoting the establishment of institutional frameworks at local and national levels designed to advise governments and administrations on policy-making on Roma and Sinti affairs.

 

Council of Europe Development Bank


The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) is a multilateral development bank with a social vocation. Established in 1956 to develop solutions to the problems of refugees, its scope of action has progressively widened to other sectors of action directly contributing to strengthening social cohesion in Europe.

 

Council of Europe Roma and Travellers Division

 

The Council of Europe's main objective is to encourage its members to take a comprehensive approach to Roma issues. This involves three main priorities: protecting minorities, preventing social exclusion, and combating racism, anti-gypsyism and intolerance.

 

Dosta! Campaign


Dosta! is a Council of Europe/European Commission awareness raising campaign that aims to bring non-Roma closer to Roma citizens by breaking down the barriers caused by prejudices and stereotypes. 

 

EU Agency for Fundamental Rights

 

The Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) is an EU body tasked with advising policy-makers across the EU on how to best guaranteeing human rights for all.

The European Commission acts as an executive of the European Union. The body is responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the Union's treaties and the general day-to-day running of the Union.

The European Commission's Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities works towards the creation of more and better jobs, an inclusive society and equal opportunities for all. In partnership with national authorities, social partners, civil society organizations and other stakeholders, the Directorate-General addresses challenges linked to globalization, the ageing of Europe's population and changing social realities.


European Roma and Travellers Forum


The European Roma and Travellers Forum is an international Roma organization that brings together Roma NGOs from throughout Europe.  

 

European Roma Information Office


The European Roma Information Office (ERIO) is an international advocacy organization that promotes political and public discussion on Roma issues by providing factual and in-dept information on a range of policy issues to EU institutions, Roma civic organizations, governmental authorities and intergovernmental bodies.

 

European Roma Rights Centre

 

The European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) is an international public interest law organization engaging in a range of activities aimed at combating anti-Romani racism and human rights abuse of Roma.


European Union

 

The European Union is an economic and political union of 27 European member states.

 

International Romani Union

 

Established at the second World Romani Congress in 1978, the International Romani Union is an organization active for the rights of the Romani people.

 

Open Society Institute Roma Initiatives


The Open Society Institute (OSI) is the major nongovernmental supporter of efforts to improve the economic and social inclusion of Roma in Central and South Eastern Europe. Roma Initiatives guides and coordinates all aspects of OSI programming and grantmaking activity related to Roma within the framework of the Decade of Roma Inclusion.
 

Roma Education Fund (REF) 

 

As a central pillar of the Decade, the Roma Education Fund (REF) was established in 2005 to expand educational opportunities for Roma communities in Central and Southeastern Europe. The goal of the REF is to contribute to closing the gap in educational outcomes between Roma and non-Roma, through policies and programs including desegregation of educational systems. 

 

UN-HABITAT

 

The mission of UN-HABITAT is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. Its activities contribute to the overall objective of the United Nations system to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development within the context and the challenges of a rapidly urbanizing world.

 

UNHCR - The UN Refugee Agency


UNHCR, the United Nations refugee organization, is mandated by the United Nations to lead and coordinate international action for the world-wide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems. UNHCR’s primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another state, and to return home voluntarily.
 

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behavior towards children.
 

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. It operates in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and its wide range of partners.

 

World Bank 


The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. It is not a bank in the common sense; it is made up of two unique development institutions owned by 186 member countries—the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). The World Bank addresses Roma issues in the context of its work on poverty and economic development in the region.
