Mundi Romani: "Granada: The Maya Family" (2007)
[27:04 - Hungarian with English Subtitles] This episode of Mundi Romani, a documentary series co-produced by the Romedia Foundation and Duna Television with support from the OSI Roma Decade Matching Fund, is the last film shot with Mario Maya, the world’s most innovative and influential flamenco dancer and choreographer. Mundi Romani travels to Granada, in Andalusia, to discover the amazing world of the Gitanos, Spanish Roma, through the unique story of the Maya family. The film presents the little-known soul of flamenco. Flamenco is an art of the marginalized: its inspiration comes from centuries of persecution that led the Gitanos to lose knowledge of their own language and to miss educational opportunities. This is the heart of the Maya story, a story of exclusion, genius, perseverence, empowerment and beauty.
