Mundi Romani: "Lashi Vita" (2008)
[27:42 - Hungarian with English Subtitles] This episode of Mundi Romani, a documentary series co-produced by the Romedia Foundation and Duna Television with support from the OSI Roma Decade Matching Fund, was shot in Italy in 2008, after the November 2007 murder of an Italian woman by a Roma immigrant sparked an unprecedented wave of anti-Roma hate speech, xenophobic policies and racially-motivated violence against Roma. In "Lashi Vita," the Mundi Romani crew travels through Italy interviewing representatives of the authorities, human rights activists, religious figures and everyday people. We get to hear the personal tales of those who had to flee the former Yugoslavia to survive the war, the stories of Romanian Roma, EU citizens, who have fled the misery of their lives at home, and the testimonies of the Italian Sinti Roma, who have lived in Italy for at least five centuries.
