Communications Consultant

 
Background:

The Roma Education Fund (REF), founded in 2005, is a non-profit organization promoting the access of Roma children to quality education in fourteen European countries of Europe. It provides grants, technical assistance and policy advice to governments and civil society organizations. The REF office, with sixteen staff, is located in Budapest, Hungary.  In addition, five Country Facilitators and a Policy Development Advisors are work for REF in different partner countries.
 
Objective:
 
REF is seeking a Communications Consultant for its Budapest office. The Communications Consultant should possess a fluent command of both oral and written English, and speak at least one official language of the Decade of Roma Inclusion. The Communications Consultant will work in a team composed of the Communications Assistant, the Financial and Administrative Manager and the Fundraiser.
 
Responsibilities and Tasks:
 
The Communications Consultant will be responsible for:
 
-          organizing press conferences
-          database development
-          website editing
-          writing internal reports, news releases in Hungarian/English and or any of the Decade languages
-          building education related press network on local and national level
-          distribution of REF publications
-          designing and managing the demand-based reproductions of REF promotional materials
-          coordinating the country mapping of REF project countries from a communications related point of view
 
In particular, the Communications Consultant will:
 
-          Be expected to organize press events for all needed events with REF involvement
-          Actively participate in the work of the communications team consisting of the Communications Assistant, the Financial and Administrative Manager and the Fundraiser.
-          Work closely with REF staff in the preparation of both internal and external informative reports (Monthly brief, Annual Report etc) and assist to provide data or necessary information to any request (not –solely media)
-          Monitor and report on different media appearances
 
Conditions:
 
-          This will be a consultancy-based agreement
-          The consultant will be expected to work together in a team with the Communications Assistant and on a regular based with REF country facilitators and Country Officers
-          The consultant will be expected to work part-time, possibly up to 8 to 12 days a month
 
The candidate should possess the following:
 
-          BA degree in relevant subjects (communication, journalism, etc)
-          good knowledge of website maintenance
-          Fluent written and spoken English plus one official languages of the Decade. Working knowledge of Romanes is an advantage
-          Professional experience in journalism is an advantage
-          Ability to work in a multi-cultural team in various contexts,
-          Fairly good knowledge on Roma media networks across Europe

Reporting:

The Communications Consultant will work in close collaboration with the Communications Assistant. Therefore, he/she will report to the Communications Assistant and the Financial and Administrative Manager, who is the supervisor of the unit.
