Mundi Romani: “The Last Days of Sulukule” – Part 2 (2009)
[11:20 – Hungarian with English subtitles] This episode of Mundi Romani, a documentary series co-produced by the Romedia Foundation and Duna Television with support from the OSI Roma Decade Matching Fund, was shot in November 2008, just before Istanbul’s old Roma neighborhood of Sulukule was finally destroyed. It provides a unique insight into Sulukule’s amazing music, its people and the disappearance of minority cultures under the power held by city developers and short-sighted public officials. At the crossroads between Europe and Asia, this is an all too common story of human suffering and cultural destruction.
