Program Coordinator
 
The Decade of Roma Inclusion Secretariat Foundation (“Decade Secretariat”) is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator for its office in Budapest, Hungary. The Program Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Facilitator of the Decade Secretariat. The terms of the contract will be determined on the basis of the applicable Hungarian Labor Code.
 
 
Background:
 
The Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005–2015 (“Decade”) is an unprecedented political commitment by European governments to improve the socio-economic status and social inclusion of Roma. The Decade is an international initiative that brings together governments, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations, as well as Romani civil society, to accelerate progress toward improving the welfare of Roma and to review such progress in a transparent and quantifiable way. The Decade focuses on the priority areas of education, employment, health and housing, and commits governments to take into account the other core issues of poverty, discrimination and gender mainstreaming.
 
The member states of the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005–2015 are Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain.
 
The Decade of Roma Inclusion Secretariat Foundation is a private foundation established in 2007 by the Open Society Institute. The Decade Secretariat serves as the main facilitation body of the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015. It aims to support the work of the annually rotating Presidency of the Decade. In addition to the annual transfer of know-how and initiatives between Decade Presidencies, the Decade Secretariat ensures a smooth transition and enhances coordination of all joint activities. It provides continuity to the Decade and acts as the continuous repository of information and knowledge about the Decade.

Responsibilities:

The Program Coordinator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

·          Providing conceptual, operational and technical support for the annually rotating Decade Presidency in the organization of Decade events
·          Coordinating the flow of information among the Decade partners by regularly following the initiatives of the relevant stakeholders
·          Using communication as a strategic tool to attract attention and promotion for the Decade and its objectives
·          Assisting in the implementation activities of the Decade Trust Fund
·          Following up the recommendations of the Decade thematic workshops
·          Developing of the knowledge-management system based on best practice initiatives of the Decade partners.
 
Requirements:
 
·          BA/MA degree in relevant field or minimum of 5 years working experience
·          Solid knowledge of the process of the Decade of Roma Inclusion
·          Solid knowledge of relevant public and civil partners - demonstrated communication network
·          Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English
·          Knowledge of Romani plus 1 or more language(s) of the Decade countries is a considerable advantage.
·          Advanced computer skills (MS Office, internet, publication software)
·          Demonstrated commitment to Roma inclusion issues
·          Excellent analytical and organizational skills
·          Multitasking abilities and ability to work under pressure
·          Capacity to work independently as well as in a multinational team

·         Two recommendation letters – from previous supervisors or peers who are familiar with the candidate’s capacities
·         One-page (A4) motivation letter explaining the candidate’s relevant professional and educational background.
